I married Craig knowing full well that he was frugal. I appreciate that quality. I do. It means I can spend more. When he gets irritated that I leave too many lights on, I just roll my eyes. When I see him out the window burning the insulation off of the broken water heater so he can recycle the metal to avoid paying to dispose of it properly, I just shake my head.
But this.....I'm almost embarrassed to share. The last I checked we weren't collecting food stamps and Craig was indeed gainfully employed.
When I went outside yesterday, I spied my dear husband fashioning Maren and Hank's rubber boots (that have already been repaired with duct tape mind you) into summer loafers via a serrated knife.
I can't blame Craig entirely for his ingenuity. It was obviously passed down from his father who presently has a nut and bolt holding his shoe together. No joke. A nut and bolt.
My mother in law advises she bought him a new pair, but he is not willing to part with his hardware. Let's just hope he doesn't have to go through security at the airport. You never know what's holding his under-roos together.
I've been doing this WTF Wednesday feature off and on for the last few months. I wasn't sure if it would hold my attention long enough to turn it into an actual meme. If you're not a blogger you don't know what the hell I'm talking about, so feel free to skip to the picture. After seeing the Mad Woman last week participating (which was awesome), I think I'm going to add an actual linky next week if anyone else want to play. Here's a preview of the button. The idea behind this picture goes to Liz from A Belle, a Bean, and Chicago Dog I've already spent 14 hours trying to add the text box. Hopefully by next week, I'll figure it out (meaning Liz will take pity on me and help!).
The black eye band on that kid really helps hide his identity.
Craig needs help. A Lot of Help.
I love WTF Wednesdays, go on with your blogging self.

Totally reminds me of the first blog I ever read of yours, when Little Kiss was wearing is life jacket like a thong. Loved it!

I'll participate. Just this morning I was driving through town and saw a bunch of soldiers, in full battle rattle, with the guideon running down the street. That's odd, even for an Army town like Anchorage. But what really made me say WTF? was the civilian female running with them pushing a double jog stroller. I mean seriously? WTF??

I love your WTF Wednesday's! I'll do my best to think of something I can write about that would be worthy to link up.
Now Craig and those garden loafers- I have a guy here who would give them the thumbs up.

I am beaming, Poppy.
You did right by my vision, and this was so much more than I could have dreamed.
I can't wait to proudly display that badge!

Your Grandpa would have loved Craig! Turning rubber boots into summer loafers and his Dad fixing his shoes with a nut and bolt he must me smiling down from Heaven at that one. Grandpa himself was fond of the Bondo method of fixing anything! Now my husband's answer for fixing anything is Zip-Ties.

there's nothing wrong with those rubber boot loafers! now they can run around on the wet grass and not get their feet wet AND they wont' be too hot! i'm trying to figure out how to use the leftover portion to cover the fact that he cut them apart. something without duct tape. i think craig and i are 2 of a kind! you should see the antics i pull when i sew and dont' want to waste ANYTHING!!!!!!!!!

I must be super cheap b/c I was looking at those boots and thinking that was genius.
Btw, I look like a total stalker today- I opened your blog like 3 hours ago and got distracted and just now got back to it. So, if you are looking at your stats and see that, it's not a stalker, it's just me.
Well, unless there is more than one person who did that. And then you have a problem on your hands.

I so suck for not checking Google Reader more often...how have I missed this??!
I'm in. I love it!
Also? I'm signing up to get your posts by email (I don't do that with any other blogs except blogs that blog about blogging...does that make sense?)
Posted by: Natalie | 06/02/2011 at 08:28 PM
OMG. I've had this post open on my laptop for 2 days and hadn't had a chance to read it until now....WTF, I got mentioned?
Usually when I inspire action its to send someone over the edge. So glad my superhero powers are being put to good use!
And the button? All kinds of awesome!
The meme: sometimes wordless just doesn't say enough, so I thank you!
WOO HOO!

You're in luck because I didn't even know that information could be accessed let alone how to do it. Now I'm afraid almost everyone in the blogosphere must think I'm there #1 fan because I do that all the time!
Posted by: Poppy | 06/03/2011 at 04:20 PM
Totally flattered. I really hate the google reader. I never check it. But I also hate blogs about blogging which is why I'm probably a shitty blogger. Whatever. I have yours bookmarked :)
Posted by: Poppy | 06/03/2011 at 04:28 PM
I can't share that shit publicly.
Posted by: Poppy | 06/03/2011 at 04:32 PM
He reminds me of grandpa in a lot of ways though he has never asked me to stick fish in my purse at an all you can eat (yet). I know they would have gotten along great. Craig likes Bondo and zip ties too :)
Posted by: Poppy | 06/03/2011 at 04:39 PM
a little late...but that was pretty funny. Maybe your husband's dad knows my uncle - he too has a nut bolt holding his shoes together!
Posted by: Keia | 06/06/2011 at 09:59 AM
Too funny - that is awesome. I can't believe there are two people with the same design!
Posted by: Poppy | 06/07/2011 at 07:20 PM
I'm sorry to side with Craig, but that is GENIUS!
